Ghada El-Hajj Fuleihan is Professor of Medicine. founding Director of the Calcium Metabolism and Osteoporosis Program. and WHO Collaborating Center for Metabolic Bone Disorders. at the American University of Beirut. Beirut. Lebanon. She is the Program Director of the Scholars in Health Research Program (SHARP); an NIH funded Masters of Science in Research in non-communicable diseases.
Dr. El-Hajj Fuleihan obtained her MD degree from the American University of Beirut and completed her residency and fellowship at the New England Deaconess. Brigham and Womens Hospitals and Harvard Medical School. Boston. She holds a master in Public Health. concentration in Clinical Effectiveness. from the Harvard School of Public Health. and directed the Calcium Metabolism Research Unit at the Brigham and Womens Hospital. Harvard Medical School for several years prior to moving back to her Alma Mater.
Dr. El-Hajj Fuleihans major research interests revolve around. osteoporosis. hypovitaminosis D. and other metabolic bone disorders. Her vitamin D program spans from epidemiologic to cohort studies and randomized controlled trials across the lifespan. Her research laboratory has enrolled several hundred study participants over the years. in physiologic. genetic. cross-sectional or longitudinal studies. Dr. El- Hajj Fuleihan has mentored over 40 postgraduate trainees. including many Medical Doctorate graduates. junior faculty. and several Master Thesis Students and a PhD student. Several of her trainees have gone on first tier centers in the US and have pursued a path in clinical-translational research. She has published on her topics of interest in over 140 publications. mostly peer reviewed original investigations. published in first tier journals. and penned invited Editorials and commentaries in the New England of Medicine and Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. Nature Reviews Endocrinology. as well as reviews and chapters in major bone metabolism reference textbooks and in the CD Rom UpToDate.
