Salem Beshyah qualified from the Medical School of Tripoli in 1981. He started his clinical training in Tripoli till 1985 when he moved to the UK. He obtained his MRCP (UK) and MRCPI during his introductory year in Scotland under the auspices of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He then trained as a clinical registrar in Leicester and Bedford (1987-1989). He completed a four-year clinical research fellowship in working on the clinical and metabolic consequences of hypopituitarism and growth hormone deficiency which was the subject of his PhD thesis. After further clinical training, he was appointed Consultant Physician in Diabetes and Endocrinology in Harlow, Essex UK for 10 years
In 2006, Dr. Beshyah moved to SKMC. He is very keen on education and was the RCP Tutor for the last 3 years in Harlow and coordinated a busy CME program in Diabetes and Endocrinology at the SKMC, Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology since his arrival. He is an associate editor of Ibnosina Journal of Medicine and Biomedical Journal and has 39 entries in Medline in addition to numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He is the Honorary Treasurer of the Libyan Association for Diabetes and Endocrinology. His interests include practical management of diabetes, endocrine disorders during pregnancy, diabetic foot and cardiovascular disorders in diabetes.
